The Chicago law enforcement community and the city at large are mourning the untimely death of an off-duty police officer, John Connor, also known as Edwin Espinoza. He tragically lost his life in a single-car accident in Oak Lawn.

John Connor, known to many as Edwin Espinoza, was a 35-year-old probationary police officer with the Chicago Police Department. A dedicated public servant, he had committed himself to ensuring the safety and well-being of the Austin community, where he served in the 15th District.

John began his career as a probationary officer about a year ago, immediately demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the community. His commitment to upholding law enforcement ideals within the vibrant region of Austin was evident to all who worked alongside him.

On a fateful Sunday morning, John’s vehicle skidded off the road on 95th Street in Oak Lawn, colliding with a tree. Despite the quick response from Oak Lawn’s first responders, who arrived at the crash site around 7:50 a.m., John’s injuries were too severe. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The accident remains under investigation by Oak Lawn police.

John Connor died from injuries sustained in the car accident. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown and is currently under investigation.

In the wake of this tragic incident, a GoFundMe page has been set up by Alexis Espinoza of Palos Hills, Illinois, to assist the family with funeral expenses. The campaign, titled “Edwin Espinoza,” has already surpassed its goal, raising $22,346 of the targeted $20,000.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of John Connor (Edwin Espinoza). As a dedicated officer and a caring community member, he will be deeply missed. His commitment to serving the Austin area will not be forgotten, nor will his aspiration to make a difference in the lives of its residents. May his soul find peace, and may his memory inspire others to serve with the same passion and dedication.
